I'm dying to own a horse or a goat, or maybe even an alpaca. ANYTHING with some capacity for smarts. (Which sadly, does not include bull mastiffs)

Lois, I remember my dad telling me about a similar "animals-in-the-road" experience in New Zealand, except with sheep. You would wonder why people keep putting up with this stuff! Then again...lamb chops and milkshakes ARE delicious enough to cope with some frustrations I suppose.Kimberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08121997385004904981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3460217485159171600.post-54775375963653902962008-08-22T14:55:00.000-04:002008-08-22T14:55:00.000-04:00Thank God and thank you Kim!All these forty plus s...Thank God and thank you Kim!
All these forty plus some years I have thought that I was the only person on God's green earth that thought cows were stupid.
Kim, you have restored my faith in womankind.
I grew up in farm country and though we didn't have a farm I spent lots of time on different ones.
I remember the first time I went to Barbados and we went driving around a corner to stop suddenly as a herd of cows were standing in the middle of the road chewing their cud. Apparently this was a daily occurrence. Day in and day out for years, or so I wa told. That is the only time I have thought the people were more stupid than the cows. Does the word "fence" come to mind?
Anyway I enjoyed your tale of the bovine Kim.
Have a good weekend!Loishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05982808720385645394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3460217485159171600.post-27730735968834730642008-08-21T09:09:00.000-04:002008-08-21T09:09:00.000-04:00I grew up around cows and I second your observatio...I grew up around cows and I second your observations: they're pretty stupid animals. And they're also covered in snot, feces, and flies; they don't look ANYTHING like those cute cow magnets on your fridge.

I figure that all the intelligence has been bred out of cows, and it probably doesn't help that they spend all their lives in pasture and eat monotonous, hormone-laced food. There's no need or motivation for a cow to be adventurous...the adventurous cow, traditionally, was the one who'd find a way around the fence and then fall into a deep hole. Gene pool culled.

Sheep, however, always struck me as smarter.Adam Thorntonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05634565262440008573noreply@blogger.com
